The Design & Technology Forum is the result, as often these things are, of a discussion between a few people with a significant interest in the subject.

The conversation, held during the first Design Day at the Hub in June 2007, moved around the need to maintain contact at a time when there are substantial changes afoot around the introduction of diplomas, revised guidelines for KS3 and continuing pressures for community engagement - amongst other policy and curriculum change.

It also moved around the long and vexed question about the valuing of design education inside school and in the broader economy and society.

From this a round table/seminar was convened at the Hub in mid October with the resulting recommendation that we set up the forum.

Sharing Practice a conference for Lincolnshire secondary school teachers hosted by the University of Lincoln Friday 4 July 2008

The conference has been and gone but produced a rich and valuable dialogue, particularly about building new relations between the university and secondary schools. The conference report will be available soon.

Forum content for 2008

Design Days and Design Challenge Days
Highly focused days for students with an interest in design, bringing together schools from across Lincolnshire and beyond in formal skills sessions and collaborative working.

Design Challenge Days are school based sessions of competitive designing and modelling - the purpose being to share resources and skills in an entertaining but demanding way.

Lincolnshire Young Designer of the Year will be the forum's flagship task - a way of valuing schools and individuals, and perhaps above all, building a case for importance of design education for young people.

Seminars and round tables
Times to share practice and news through focused sessions. Informationand meeting dates are regularly sent to the Heads of Technology in Lincolnsshire secondary schools.

Courses for teachers
Covering a wide range of subjects to add to skills and background knowledge. Two, to be held in association with CfBT, are planned for the Autumn.
