learning introduction
Learning covers all sorts of Hub matters, from the infants' art table in the main gallery to the Cafe RSA community debates. We work alongside a large number of partners including Lincolnshire NHS Trust, Arts Council England, universities, schools and local community groups.
Our business is also knowledge sharing, from print to internet based information about exhibitions and practically any subject that relates to crafts and design.
Short courses and workshops
Hub short courses have long been an important element of its work. Over the next year we expect to see an expansion of the number and breadth of learning opportunities.
Each year is organised as Spring, Summer and Autumn semesters, with six concentrated weeks of one day courses, almost all at the weekend. Join skilled workshop leaders to learn and contribute in the company of other like minded students.
The Autumn short course programme is published
Watch out for Hubbles, our once a month early years workshop, starts Wednesday 17 September. Download the flyer:
Early years, schools, colleges and universities
Schools, colleges and universities are always welcomed. Hub staff can organise half or whole day sessions (normally at no cost) provide introductions to the exhibitions and otherwise support learning activities.
There is a dedicated education studio that can be set aside for school parties (though is often busy and needs early booking).
Many of our exhibitions are accompanied by curriculum notes. Ask for copies.
The newly formed Design & Technology Forum has a few tricks for this next year, amongst them a series of Design Days and the Lincolnshire Young Designer of the Year.
Design Days bring together students from Lincolnshire schools in highly focused days of collaborative working - the rigour to be found in good design studios.
Forum members are planning a series of design challenge days set in secondary schools, setting competitive design tasks.
The Lincolnshire Young Designer of the Year values the talents of school students and their future contribution to a well designed world.

Events

Last June the Hub hosted Hearing Voices...Telling Stories, a conference for two hundred and more delegates from a very wide range of interests.
Its subject, the situation where people with mental health needs hear voices or endure other sensations, allowed the delegates to look widely at the whole landscape of mental health, sharing knowledge between health workers, service users, social workers, police and many other community representatives.
Read about the conference report, more than just a list of speakers.
One outcome has been a long term plan for the Hub to collaborate with Sheffield Hallam Unniversity in hosting an occupational therapy student placement able to bridge the gap between the cultural and health sectors.
Watch out for the Cafe RSA series of community debates. More information under events.
the very cheap great design collection

The Hub's contribution to the museum world - given by generous philanthropists who have each spent up to a quid but have stretched their critical thinking to find the greatest design for the C21.
